Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures in the world where body contouring can be done to abdomen, neck, thigh, breast and other anatomical areas. Small areas can be treated under local anesthesia but larger areas, such as abdomen and thighs, are done under general anesthesia.

After inducing anesthesia the area of treatment is infiltrated with diluted local anesthetic solution and saline which makes the area easier to treat and the local anesthetic also controls postoperative pain. The procedure takes 30 min to 2 hours, depending on the size of the area treated.

The Process

The procedure is done as day surgery so the patient can be discharged a couple hours after the treatment. After the operation it is important that the treated area is protected with a binder for three weeks to control both bleeding and swelling and also to minimize fluid collection to the treated area. During this time excessive exercise should be avoided.

The liposuction itself is done through small 1cm incisions which are closed with dissolving sutures. The swelling and bruising disappear in 1-2 weeks.

The best result is achieved in young people whose skin has not lost its elasticity. It should not be used as a way to lose weight but rather to follow it.
